What Is GAF Timberline UHDZ®?
Timberline UHDZ® (Ultra High Definition) is the premium laminate shingle from GAF. It is designed for homeowners and homeowners associations who want more thickness, more depth, and more protection than Timberline HDZ®.
An UltraMat™ fiberglass core gives it a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest possible, which matters when hail hits your roof. The Dual Shadow Line adds a second band of depth to each shingle, and the shingle runs about 20 percent thicker than Timberline HDZ®.
ProShield Roofing is GAF Master Elite certified, so qualifying installations can carry GAF Golden Pledge workmanship coverage. See how it fits into our residential roofing services, or compare it with Timberline HDZ®.

Read a sample Golden Pledge warranty, and ask us which installations qualify.
What “Lifespan” Actually Means
“Lifetime” describes how long warranty coverage runs, not how long a roof will last. A thicker shingle helps, but service life still depends on ventilation, installation quality, and storm exposure. Learn more about how long a roof lasts and why proper ventilation matters.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Timberline UHDZ® Questions
It stands for Ultra High Definition, GAF’s name for the premium laminate shingle in the Timberline line.
UltraMat™ is a high-performance fiberglass mat at the core of the shingle. It helps Timberline UHDZ® achieve a UL 2218 Class 4 rating.
It is a patented design that distributes color granules to create two parallel shadow lines, which adds depth to the roof.
It depends on your budget and priorities. You get Class 4 impact resistance, a longer algae warranty, and a thicker shingle for a modest increase in price. GAF has a side-by-side comparison of both shingles.
It may. Class 4 shingles can qualify for insurance discounts, but the savings depend on your provider and policy. Our guide to roof insurance claims explains how coverage works.
Six colors: Pewter Gray, Weathered Wood, Shakewood, Barkwood, Charcoal, and Slate.
